The Galvanized Iron (GI) Porta Cabin is SAMAN's corrosion-focused cabin for coastal, humid and chemical-adjacent sites where painted steel needs frequent repair. The build separates three routes most quotations mix up: a full-GI hot-dip galvanized structure, hybrid galvanized critical members, and GI/PPGI cladding on an MS frame. Your quotation names the route, the base-metal thickness and the coating mass.

Walls use 0.8–1.2 mm BMT corrugated zinc-coated sheet to IS 277 or approved equivalent, with corrosion-compatible fasteners and EPDM/butyl sealing. Six factory-built sizes from 10x10 to 40x10 ft ship from Bengaluru and Greater Noida in 7–21 working days. Prices start at ₹1,58,125 ex-GST, with a fixed quote in 48 hours.

When a GI Porta Cabin Outperforms Painted Steel on Real-World Sites

A GI porta cabin should be selected for the conditions it will face—not simply out of habit. On coastal sites within roughly 500 metres of the sea, beside cooling towers, inside persistently humid facilities, or near chemical storage areas, ordinary painted steel can deteriorate much sooner than expected. Once corrosion begins, repeated surface preparation and repainting add maintenance costs, disrupt operations, and reduce the cabin’s service life.

A galvanized iron porta cabin offers stronger, longer-lasting corrosion protection. Its zinc coating acts sacrificially, meaning that even when the surface is scratched during transport, lifting, or daily site use, the surrounding zinc corrodes before the steel underneath. This makes a GI portable cabin a practical choice for coastal projects, industrial plants, construction sites, and other demanding environments where moisture and corrosive exposure cannot be avoided.

For dry, inland locations, an MS porta cabin can often deliver the same reliable performance at a lower initial cost. Its IS 2062 structural frame can support the same platform electrics, quality checks, and office functions required for a dependable portable site office.

Compare both options, then send us your site pin, exposure conditions, intended use, and preferred headcount. Our engineering team will recommend the right cabin specification and provide a fixed quotation within 48 hours.

Comprehensive information about Galvanized Iron (GI) Porta Cabin

Product Overview

Detailed information about Galvanized Iron (GI) Porta Cabin

What a GI Porta Cabin Is, and When You Should Specify One

A GI porta cabin is a factory-built portable cabin in which the weather-facing steel is zinc-coated rather than only painted. Zinc protects steel sacrificially. At cut edges, scratches and fastener points, the zinc corrodes first. The base metal underneath stays shielded. So the shell survives handling damage that starts rust on ordinary painted sheet. That single property decides where this cabin earns its price.

Specify GI when the site itself attacks steel. Coastal yards and ports live with salt-laden air. Process plants place cabins beside cooling towers, wash bays and chemical stores. Hill and high-rainfall locations keep surfaces wet for weeks. Remote sites cannot schedule repainting at all. In each case, a painted-only shell demands maintenance the site cannot easily give. A zinc-coated system keeps protecting between rare inspections.

SAMAN builds GI porta cabins at two factories: Bengaluru for South India and Greater Noida for the North. Delivery to site takes 7–21 working days. The company has manufactured portable buildings since 2009, was incorporated in 2019, and has delivered 500+ projects across 15+ states. Every cabin leaves the factory only after a pre-dispatch inspection. That check covers dimensions, coating, roof drainage, weather sealing, doors, windows and electrical continuity.

Three Galvanized Builds and Why Your Quotation Must Name One

Most Indian listings sell a "GI cabin" at one per-square-foot rate without saying what is actually galvanized. Three different builds hide behind that label. They perform differently, and they price differently. SAMAN quotations name the route explicitly, so you can compare offers on substance.

Build routeWhat is zinc-protectedBest-fit exposure
Full-GI structureHot-dip galvanized chassis, frame and zinc-coated cladding, with certificates and coating-repair procedureCoastal, marine and chemical-adjacent sites; longest deployments
Hybrid galvanized membersGalvanized chassis and other critical members; remaining frame protected MSHigh-humidity industrial sites with a maintenance programme
GI/PPGI cladding on MS frameZinc-coated corrugated cladding over a painted IS 2062 MS frameHumid or wet-season exposure where the frame stays dry inside

This table exists because the three routes answer different budgets and exposures. A buyer weighing quotations needs them side by side. In the full-GI route, the 100x50x3 mm structural channel chassis and the frame members are hot-dip galvanized to an approved schedule. Welded and cut locations are repaired with a zinc-rich system, and certificates travel with the cabin. The hybrid route protects the members that trap moisture first. The cladding route relies on the zinc-coated skin alone; the frame stays painted MS. Many fabricators quietly sell that third build as "GI". Ask the question before you compare prices.

The Specification Details That Decide Corrosion Life

Thickness alone tells you little about a galvanized sheet. Corrosion life follows the zinc coating mass, in grams per square metre, on a given base-metal thickness. SAMAN wall cladding uses 0.8–1.2 mm BMT corrugated GI/PPGI to IS 277 or approved equivalent. The project schedule states both the BMT and the required coating mass. Steel mills publish GI capability from 0.13–3.0 mm with coating up to 275 gsm. So the specification you sign matters far more than the word "galvanized" in a listing.

The roof uses 1.0–1.4 mm BMT profiled zinc-coated sheet with sealed laps and flashings. Roof framing keeps positive drainage, because standing water defeats any coating. Interiors default to a 0.40–0.50 mm pre-painted metal liner rather than MDF. Board materials swell in persistently damp service; fibre-cement board remains available where you prefer a board finish. The floor pairs a protected steel cross-grid with 18–24 mm cement-bonded board. Offices get 2 mm commercial vinyl on top. Rough industrial duty gets 3 mm chequered steel.

Small components break corrosion systems, so they get the same attention. Fasteners are corrosion-compatible with the zinc-coated shell. Joints, corners, roof laps and penetrations carry EPDM, butyl or approved sealants. No unsealed field cut is accepted. Aluminium window frames are isolated from dissimilar steel and perimeter-sealed. Door hardware matches the shell's coating strategy, and threshold details prevent water trapping at the opening.

Condensation is the quiet failure mode in humid climates. The cabin manages it as one system. Walls take 50–75 mm mineral wool or 50 mm PUF/PIR infill with climate-specific vapour control. The roof takes 75–100 mm mineral wool or a 60–80 mm insulated panel. Ventilation moves moist air out, and AC condensate is routed clear of the chassis and cladding. If insulation performance drives your decision more than corrosion does, the PUF porta cabin is the sibling built around that priority.

Where GI Porta Cabins Go to Work

Ports and shipyards use them as gate offices, tally rooms and stevedore rest cabins, because salt air is constant and repainting halts operations. Fisheries and aquaculture units place them beside processing halls, where washdown keeps everything wet. Chemical and fertiliser plants stand them near storage areas that painted steel cannot tolerate. Desalination and coastal power projects order them for long construction phases in the spray zone.

Inland, the case is humidity rather than salt. Breweries, dairies and food plants run high-moisture halls. Pharma sites need cabins beside wash bays. Hill-state projects in Kerala, the Konkan belt and the Northeast face months of monsoon wetting. Mining and tunnel sites add condensation from temperature swings. For each of these, the GI build trades a known one-time premium for years of avoided repainting and downtime. Contractors who redeploy cabins between projects buy GI for the same reason. A module that moves every year cannot count on gentle weather at its next site.

Two honest boundaries help you buy correctly. First, GI is a corrosion decision, not a security or fire decision. If your need is fire rating or acoustic control, other cabins in the range own those jobs. Second, a dry inland compound rarely justifies the premium. SAMAN will say so in the quotation rather than sell coating you do not need.

Six Sizes, One Transparent Price Ladder

Every size uses the same technical framework. Quantities, openings and services scale with the module. The rate is set on the 20x10 ft reference at ₹1,375/sq.ft, with published area-band adjustments: smaller modules carry a premium, larger ones a reduction. These are planning prices for the base specification. Interior fit-out, optional add-ons, transport and installation are quoted separately, and the final quotation confirms the figure.

Size (ft)Area sq.ftPrice ex-GSTPrice incl. 18% GST
10x10x8.5100₹1,58,125₹1,86,588
20x8x8.5160₹2,42,000₹2,85,560
20x10x8.5200₹2,75,000₹3,24,500
20x12x8.5240₹3,16,800₹3,73,824
40x8x8.5320₹4,18,000₹4,93,240
40x10x8.5400₹5,22,500₹6,16,550

The ladder is published as a table because size selection is a numeric comparison, and hiding it behind an enquiry form wastes your time. Note the 40x8 ft module. The GI range offers this long-narrow footprint for boundary rows and jetty edges, a format the other cabins in the porta cabins range do not list. Market listings for GI cabins commonly quote ₹750–1,200/sq.ft. Those rates rarely state coating mass, base-metal thickness or what is actually galvanized. This page and your SAMAN quotation put exactly that information in writing.

Delivery, Site Readiness and What Stays Out of Scope

Cabins dispatch complete from the nearer factory. Delivery inside Bengaluru city and across Delhi NCR (Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida and Greater Noida) is free. Other routes follow the published open-trailer freight ladder by distance band. Smaller modules use 20 ft trailer rates; the 40 ft modules use 40 ft trailer rates. The Shipping tab on this page carries the current figures and their conditions. Freight stays tentative until the delivery location and order are confirmed; route and returning-vehicle factors can move it either way.

Your site provides a few things before the trailer arrives. The approach road must take the trailer length you ordered. Unloading needs a crane or forklift arranged for the module weight. Lifting uses the engineered lifting points to the approved handling drawing, never slings around the cladding. The cabin then sits on six or more level support points; a plinth, blocks or a prepared pad all work if they hold level. Power terminates at the cabin's distribution board, which arrives with MCB/RCCB protection, earthing and segregated circuits ready for connection.

GI porta cabin lifted on slings by a mobile crane during positioning; crane and rigging are arranged by the buyer unless quoted

Foundations, statutory approvals, site power supply and plumbing connections stay in the buyer's scope unless your quotation states otherwise. Plumbing is not standard on this product. Where you order it, penetrations are sleeved, sealed and detailed to avoid galvanic contact with the zinc-coated structure.

How to Send an Enquiry That Prices Itself in 48 Hours

A GI enquiry turns into a fixed quotation fastest when it answers the exposure questions upfront. SAMAN returns a fixed-price quote within 48 hours once these inputs arrive:

  • Site location pin, plus distance from the sea or the corrosive source
  • Exposure notes: salt air, washdown, chemical vapour, monsoon wetting or condensation
  • Build route you want priced: full-GI, hybrid members, or GI cladding on MS
  • Size from the six-step ladder, with headcount and layout needs
  • Openings and options: extra windows, louvers instead of windows, AC provision, grills
  • Site constraints: approach-road trailer limit, unloading equipment, support arrangement

Two of these deserve care. The exposure notes decide the coating recommendation, so a photo of the surroundings helps more than adjectives. And the build route controls a meaningful share of the price. Asking for all three routes priced on one size is a legitimate and common request.

What Is Standard, What Is Optional, What Is Excluded

STANDARD in every GI porta cabin: the zinc-protected structure and cladding for the quoted route, insulated walls and roof, metal-liner or fibre-cement interior, cement-bonded floor with vinyl finish, one office door, sealed aluminium windows, and complete wiring with LED lights, modular switches, 6A/16A sockets and a protected distribution board. Pre-dispatch QA and the coating documentation for the quoted route are part of the product, not extras.

OPTIONAL at order: extra windows or louvers in place of windows, security grills and mosquito mesh, fan and AC provision, chequered-steel flooring for rough duty, partitions for cabin-plus-store layouts, and plumbing with sleeved, sealed penetrations. Each option appears as its own line in the quotation, so you can drop it without re-pricing the cabin.

CUSTOM work such as non-ladder sizes, project-specific coating schedules and laboratory fit-outs is engineered to order and priced case by case. EXCLUDED unless your quotation says otherwise: foundations, statutory approvals, site power supply, plumbing connections, unloading equipment and freight. The exclusions are printed because surprise scope is the most common complaint buyers carry from previous cabin purchases. A quotation that lists what it does not include is the one you can actually compare.

Maintenance and Service Life in Corrosive Service

A GI porta cabin under proper use and maintenance offers a 20–25 year service life. That is a design expectation, not a warranty period. The standard commercial cover is a 5-year structural warranty and 1-year finishing warranty, with the finishing warranty extendable to 2 years on request and confirmed at quotation. Relocation damage, misuse, site services and unapproved alterations sit outside that scope.

Maintenance in corrosive service is light but specific. Inspect annually. Wash salt deposits off external surfaces. Check sealant lines at roof laps and penetrations. Touch up coating damage with the approved zinc-rich repair system, never ordinary paint. Keep the underside ventilated and drained, because trapped water under the floor defeats the protection strategy faster than rain on the walls. Full-GI cabins ship with their coating repair procedure, so your site team knows the correct material before the first scratch happens.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a GI porta cabin cost per square foot? SAMAN's published planning rate is ₹1,375/sq.ft on the 20x10 ft reference size, with area-band adjustments across the six sizes, as shown in the ladder above. The figure covers the base specification ex-GST. Fit-out, transport and installation are quoted separately.

Is a "GI sheet cabin" the same as a full-GI cabin? No. A cladding-only build puts zinc-coated sheet over a painted MS frame. A full-GI build galvanizes the structure itself, with certificates. Both are legitimate products at different prices. Your quotation should name which one you are buying.

Can I mix a galvanized frame with standard panels? Yes. The hybrid route galvanizes the chassis and critical members while the rest of the build follows the standard specification. It suits humid industrial sites that want structural protection without the full-GI premium.

How do I identify galvanized steel on delivery? Hot-dip galvanized surfaces show a characteristic spangle or matte-grey zinc finish at cut edges and unpainted areas. Scratches do not rust red the way bare MS does. Coating certificates accompany the full-GI build, so verification never relies on eyesight alone.

Does the cabin suit government and PSU procurement? Yes. SAMAN is NSIC and Udyam registered, and holds ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications. The technical PDF on this page, coating schedules and QA records supply the specification documentation procurement files typically require.

Which size should a coastal site office start with? Price the 20x10 ft reference first; it is the benchmark the rate is set on. Then move one step by headcount: 20x8 for narrow plots, 20x12 for a meeting room, 40x8 or 40x10 where one long module replaces two small ones and halves the joints exposed to weather.

Technical Specifications

Detailed technical information and features

These specifications change three things a buyer feels later. The stated BMT-plus-coating-mass line makes offers comparable and auditable at delivery. The corrosion-compatible fastener and sealing scope removes the usual first failure points. And the quotation-named build route decides which members carry certificates, so procurement files close without follow-up letters.
